Roles and Responsibilities of The Department

The Post Harvest/Value Added Department is a new department at the Guyana Rice Development Board that focus on research in the two areas; Post Harvest and Value addition of rice.

Post Harvest processes for rice includes drying, storage, milling and packaging; hence the department’s research in this area is geared at examining these processes so that efficiency and management can be improved.

The value added function focuses on researching products that can be manufactured in Guyana from rice and its by products.

Objectives

  1. To conduct research that would aid in the improvement and enhance the efficiency of the post harvest chain.
  2. To utilize and encourage the use of available/improved/appropriate technology in the post harvest chain.
  3. To conduct research on value added products for Guyana’s rice industry.
